One Direction have unveiled their new single Perfect following claims it was written about Taylor Swift and Harry Styles' past romance. The superstar boy band's latest track was played for the first time on Nick Grimshaw's Radio 1 Breakfast Show, and shows an increasingly mature sound for the group.

During the chorus, the boys sing: "If you like midnight driving with the windows down, if you like going places we can't even pronounce, if you like to do whatever you've been dreaming about - baby you're perfect, baby you're perfect." Earlier this week, there were reports claiming the song was inspired by Harry's relationship with Taylor, with some lyrics and even the music itself seemingly referencing their high-profile romance and split.

In the most obvious reference, they sing: "If you like cameras flashing every time we go out, if you're looking for someone to write your breakup songs about - baby I'm perfect, baby we're perfect." Some fans noticed similarities between Perfect and Taylor's hit Style, with one tweeting: "this one direction song is clearly about harry styles and taylor swift but like...seriously...it's the exact same tune as style..."

Another added: "Harry calling out Taylor Swift in the new one direction song gives me life (sic)" However, many fans were just thrilled to hear new music from the boys - and who could blame them?

One excited Directioner wrote: "Perfect by One direction really defines perfection #ItsPerfectDay (sic)" "OMG One Direction's new song "perfect" is PERFECT (sic)," gushed another.
