The Edo State Police Command has arrested an 80-year-old woman,
identified as Comfort Izedomwen, for unlawful possession of 68 live
cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, told journalists on
Monday that Izedomwen was nabbed at Ekae village in Ikpoba-Okha Local
Government Area of the state after her accomplice, one Stella Omobude,
was arrested with 32 live cartridges on October 8.
Ezike stated, “On October 8, 2015, based on credible information,
operatives and tactical units of the command raided Ecbueren village,
along Benin-Auchi road, and arrested one Stella Omobude, aged 48 years, a
peddler of cartridges to suspected armed robbers.
“Thirty-two live cartridges were recovered from her. Her
confessions led to the arrest of one Comfort
Izedomwen, aged 80 years, of Ekae village, Benin City. Sixty-eight live cartridges were recovered from her as well.”

Ezike explained that 48-year-old Omobude, who claimed to have been
introduced to the act by the octogenarian, was nabbed at Evbueren
village, along the Benin-Auchi road, by police operatives who raided the
area.
The police commissioner, who spoke while parading 71 other
suspected criminals at the state headquarters in Benin, noted that
Izedomwen kept silent on the whereabouts of her children and husband.
She was said to have confessed that she started peddling ammunition
six months ago, after she suffered a medical condition in her leg.
She, however, claimed that she sold the cartridges to hunters and private security operatives at the cost of N250 each.
“I sell to them at N250, but I don’t know what they do with it; that is what I do for a living,” she said.
The command also paraded one Lucky Ameyi, aka NIGGA, said to have
been on the wanted list of the police for the kidnap and murder of a
lecturer in the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Prof. Paul Erie.
